Atlanta — Richard G. Fugate, 95, of Atlanta passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Pekin Manor in Pekin.
Funeral Services for Mr. Fugate will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Fitchhorn officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Atlanta American Legion.
Richard Gene Fugate was born on October 30, 1930, in Bushnell, Illinois, the son of Jesse and Alma (Shaw) Fugate. He was united in marriage to Donna Wilson on June 2, 1954. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2007. He later married Wilma McRoberts on January 30, 2011. She preceded him in death December 15, 2020.
He is survived by his children: Larry (Jane) Fugate, Thomas (Jean) Fugate, Robin (Steve) Schrand, and Gloria (Mike) Fitchhorn; eight grandchildren: Amy, Lyndsie, Tegan, Shawna, Amanda, Sara, Paul, and Rend (Roger) Link; and one great-grandson: Gravin; stepchildren: Linda Brooks, Sandra (Lee) Martin, Karen (Rick) Baxter, Rick (Janet) Halsey, and Mike Halsey. Several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and eleven siblings.
Richard graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948. He then joined the United States Air Force. He served over 20 years in the military. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked in various jobs in real estate and construction. His hobbies included woodworking, watching western movies, and reading western books.
Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Rescue Squad or the Central Illinois Veterans Commission.
