Chatham – Lloys “Lane” Cagle, 88, of Chatham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, surrounded by family.
Lane was born February 9, 1938, a son of Wm. Earle “Mandy” and Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Brown Cagle. He married Judith Williams on February 7, 1959.
Lane is survived by his wife, Judy; one son, Douglas L. (Kim) Cagle; daughter-in-law, Terri Lessen Cagle; six grandchildren: Dena (Tim) Pope, Jeremy (Chrissy) Cagle, Jillian (Cody Johnson) Cagle, Bryan Cagle, Magon (Damian) Germscheid, and Ryan (Sarah) Mills. He also left 13 great-grandchildren: Ava and Jase Pope, Emma and Grace Cagle, Kinsley and Carter Mayberry, Sarah, Joseph, Abigail and Russell Germscheid, and Olivia, Charlie and Ben Mills. In addition to these are his bonus family, Scott Ostermeier and his children Andrew (Willow) and Quinn; and several nieces and nephews.
Lane was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Earle; brothers Ronnie and David; and his brother-in-law Don Williams.
Lane worked 12 years at Freeman Crown Mine and many years at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, retiring in 2002.
Services are scheduled for April 23, 2025, at South Fork Church, Rochester, IL. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., to be followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00 p.m. Pastor David Johnson will provide the memorial address. Following the service, a meal will be served by the church.
Private burial will take place along with his son, Earle, at Edinburg Cemetery at a later date.
