Atlanta – Elizabeth M. Daugherty, 94, of Atlanta, passed away at Arcadia Care of Bloomington on Sunday, January 21, 2024.
Services for Elizabeth will be held at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta on Monday, January 29, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Maurice Stribling will officiate. Burial will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery.
Elizabeth Marie Gordon was born October 16, 1929, in McLean, the daughter of Martin T. and Gertrude F. Nevius Gordon. She married Rethel Daugherty on June 22, 1946. They had four children, Tom, Joe, Alice, and Rose.
She is survived by two children: Tom (Pat) Daugherty and Rose Bishop; one daughter-in-law, Helen Daugherty; six grandchildren: Heidi (Steve) Browne, Andrew Daugherty, Kassi (Brandon) Compton, Martin (Charity) Daugherty, Sadie Atchison, and Jami Leesman; seven great-grandchildren: Konnor Browne, Karter Browne, Kannon Browne, Austin Whelan, Erin Whelan, Kylie Bishop, and Kaden Leesman; three step-great-grandchildren: Wyatt Compton, Kaden Compton, and Khloe Compton; one great-great-grandchild: Laia; and one brother, Rex Gordon.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Rethel, who passed away November 7, 1987; one daughter, Alice; one son, Joe; four adult sisters: Lucy Williams, Mildred Loercher, Geneva Mayberry, and Grace Spears; four brothers: Jim Gordon, Claude Gordon, John Gordon, and Buck Gordon; and four infant sisters.
Prior to running a home daycare for 42 years, Elizabeth worked in Bloomington at Admiral and Beich’s and in Lincoln at the box factory. She retired in 1999 and moved to the Atlanta Manor. Elizabeth enjoyed family and friends gathering around her table. She loved to fix big meals, especially on holidays. She enjoyed visitors from the Super Seniors and loved talking with Susan Hoblit and Susan Swearingen.
Elizabeth battled leukemia and COPD. Her family extends special thanks to Dr. Phil Rossi, and the staff at Hallmark Nursing Home in Pekin and Pekin Carle Hospital.
Memorials may be made to Atlanta Rescue Squad or Logan County Paramedic Association (LCPA).
