Waynesville – Doris E. Reinhart, 90, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 3:24 a.m. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Doris had resided at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy for many years. With her positive attitude, Doris fought for many years through heart, kidney, and diabetes struggles.
Services for Doris will be held in Waynesville at the Waynesville United Methodist Church. Visitation on Friday, December 1, 2023, will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. On Friday, December 2, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Becky Barrow will conduct Funeral Services. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Waynesville.
Doris was born on the family farm near Beason, on May 5, 1933, the daughter of Thomas E. and Nellie Donson Kindred, the third youngest of seven children. Doris was married to Derald L. Reinhart for 59 years. He preceded Doris in death in 2012.
Surviving Doris are her children: Connie (Jeff) Starkey of Beardstown, Roger (Nancy) Reinhart of Waynesville, and Brad (Jeanmarie) Reinhart of Nisland, SD; seven grandchildren: Lanie (Neal) Coulter, Nathan (Nichole) Reinhart, Matt (Kristy) Reinhart, Katie (Mark) Hobrock, Nicholas (Audra) Reinhart, Tyler (Missy) Starkey, and Clay (Taylor) Starkey; great-grandchildren: Lakin, Gage, Ellie, Wyatt, Emilie, A.J., Jessica, Zeb, Charlotte, Ethan, Eliza, Everett, Reid, Olivia, Lyle, and Nellie. Doris is also survived by her sister, Joann Lee of Lincoln; in-laws: Beverly Shull of Morton, Larry (Ruth) Reinhart of Normal, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to Derald, Doris was preceded in death by one grandson and six siblings.
As a child, Doris walked to Mt. Zion Country School, then attended Beason Grade and High School. She deeply treasured her schoolmates and fellow alumni. Following her marriage to Derald, they worked side by side milking Holstein cattle, and raising hogs, sheep, and Hereford cattle. They were also grain farmers in Logan and DeWitt counties. Family members have fond memories walking beans every year with her, helping to make her famous homemade noodles, and freezing homegrown sweet corn. In addition to farming, Doris was a rural mail carrier for many, many years.
She was a member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church and active in Waynesville Women’s Club. Doris enjoyed the many years spent making thousands of gingerbread cookies and icing to sell, earning money for a playground, and making other contributions to the Waynesville community.
Doris loved life. Her smile was infectious and bigger than life! She was tough as nails, worked hard, never complained, loved to dance, sought after fun, looked for the good in every situation, saw the best in most, loved her family HARD, cherished her friends, and was as loyal as they come. She encouraged everyone to go after their dreams: business, education, life. We can only hope that those around us love us the way that she loved others.
Memorials may be made to Waynesville Women’s Club, Waynesville United Methodist Church, or Waynesville Fire and Rescue Squad.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.

Doris was a much loved lady who always smiled and never complained. The residents and her other family at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy loved her and missed her when she was not there. When she went places with and others she made many friends. Everyone always commented that she always had a beautiful smile and the word used to describe her was “She was a very classy lady”. Our heartfelt sympathies to her family. There will be an empty space in our hearts as we go on without her loving heart and beautiful smile. God Bless her family as they will be lost.
