Billy James Short was born on October 21, 1952, in Lincoln, the son of James Russell and Joyce Marie Johnson Short. He was united in marriage to Debra Nelson on November 13, 2015. She survives.
Also surviving are his children: one daughter, Tiffany (Brent) Winebrinner; one son Josh (Chrissy) Short; seven grandchildren: Mallory, Preston and Taylor Short, and Kaylee, Jett, Peyton and Austin Winebrinner; and one sister: Zelma Martin Barnard.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Billy retired from the Lincoln Development Center after 35 years of service. He also trained horses and farmed.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling and playing pool. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in the recreation vehicle for many years.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Logan County.
