Mt. Pulaski — Barbara Jean Rice-Defrees, 74, of Mt. Pulaski, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the H&J Vonderlieth Living Center.
No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Barbara Jean Stansbury was born on May 1, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of David Herschal and Mary Fox Stansbury. She was united in marriage to Raymond Butch Defrees. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2006.
She is survived by her son: Robert (Terri) Rice, son-in-law: Ron Shawgo, her mother: Mary Stansbury, one sister: Betty Jane Harris, one brother: David Lee Stansbury, five grandchildren: Elizabeth Miller, Brianna Rice, Jacob Shawgo, Chris Shawgo, and Cadence Shawgo. Several great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father and one daughter Cody M. Shawgo.
Barbara worked at Walmart for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Relay for Life or the Children’s Miricle Network.
