Rudy was born on October 29, 1944, in Lincoln, the son of Rudolph and Ilda Boward Heyen.
He is survived by his children: Lori Heyen and Brent Heyen; one brother: Gary (Janet) Heyen; six grandchildren: Kevin Heyen, Brandon (Rachel) Heyen, Victoria (Adamm) Fitzpatrick Walker, David Heyen, Charlie Rose Heyen and Michael B. Heyen; three great-grandchildren: Haisley Heyen, Lucas Heyen and Mia Schlotzhauer, and his companion of many years, Jan Day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons: Kevin Heyen and Michael D. Heyen.
Rudy graduated from New Holland High School in 1962 and then Illinois State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in animal science and was active on the livestock judging team. His early career was in education where he taught and was the principal of Emden Elementary School. After ending his educator career, he farmed in Missouri, Greenview, and the Middletown area and would occasionally substitute teach when needed.
His hobbies were attending auctions, fairs, dancing, and building things. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren show livestock.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
