Bloomington — Gerhard “Gary” H. Bussmann, 88, of Bloomington, formerly of Lincoln, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.
Funeral services for Gary will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Jefferson Street Christian Church with Mr. Jason Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the church.
Gary Bussmann was born on January 18, 1936, in Alton, Illinois, the son of Henry G. and Viola Thornhill Bussmann. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Brown on June 22, 1962. She survives.
Also surviving are his children: Kris (Jeff) Zogg and Phillip Gerhard (Carrie) Bussmann; four grandchildren: Michelle (Sage) WolfeZogg, Molly (Justin) Brown, Jeremiah Bussmann and Joshua Bussmann; great-grandson: Elian WolfeZogg; one brother, Richard (Judy) Bussmann; one sister, Linda (David) Jones; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary graduated from the Mt. Olive High School in 1954 and Lincoln Christian College in 1959. He earned his doctorate degree from Eden Seminary in 1973. He was a Professor Emeritus from Lincoln Christian University, retiring in 2008.
His hobbies were fishing, and he authored several books along with many articles.
Memorials may be made to the Gary and Phyllis Bussmann Christian Education Fund at Ozark Christian College or Lincoln Christian Institute.

Sorry! I can not be there! Your Father was an inspiration to me! When I first met Phil Bussman and Kris and Jeff Zogg I was a not a believer! Phil and Kris were the first examples of having a Father as a Christian and Teacher! I met your father only two times! But I knew where Phil and Kris got their love and knowledge of the Bible!
