Greenview – David “Hog” H. Klokkenga, 62, of Greenview, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, at his home.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden with Rev. John Cross officiating. Burial Service will immediately follow at Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Dave was born on December 6, 1959, in Lincoln, the son of Marvin “Pickle” and Waneta Clayton Klokkenga.

He is survived by his sister: Priscilla (Sam) Ballance, his niece and nephew who were like his children to him: Angie (David) Wulf and Matt (Brooke) Ballance, one great niece: Brinley Ballance, and three great nephews: Auggie and Archie Wulf, and Brogan Ballance.

Dave graduated from the Hartsburg-Emden High School in 1978. He was employed at the Country Hills Golf Course in Greenview. He also immensely enjoyed helping Joyce Aggert on her farm as farming was his first real love. Dave also successfully coached grade school and Junior High School basketball at the Hartsburg-Emden Schools, where he not only was “coach” but cared for his players as his own.

Dave’s hobbies included playing slow pitch softball where he was known for SMASHING THE BALL!!! No one wanted to pitch to him and be embarrassed. He was also an excellent golfer and bowler. He loved watching Cardinal baseball and University of Illinois basketball games while yelling at the tv and posting coaching tips (or complaining about coaching) on social media. He fiercely loved his family and always gave everything he had to the people he loved. Most importantly, he was truly a great and loyal friend to so many.

Memorials may be made to his family to help cover the costs of funeral services as he did not have life insurance. Any amount left after his funeral expenses are covered will be donated to Hartem Jr. High Basketball.

Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln is assisting the family with arrangements.
