Springfield – Dorothy A. Ortiz, 75, of Springfield, formerly of Alsip and Atlanta, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
Graveside Memorial Services for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Atlanta Cemetery. Mr. Tony Billingsley will officiate. Military Rites to be accorded. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Dorothy Anne Brandt was born October 27, 1950, the daughter of Roy Harold and Eirlys Jones Brandt. She was united in marriage to Gilbert James Ortiz on February 14, 1981. He survives.
Dorothy is also survived by one son, Gilbert (Miriam) Ortiz, Jr.; three step-children: Michelle (Karl) Hoefle, Steve (Shannon) Ortiz and Becky (Brad) Ortiz-Melvin; four grandchildren: Nick, Zach, Kimberly, and Audrey; four great-grandchildren: Hunter, Keagon, Elizabeth, and Nicole; and siblings: Terry Brandt, Sharon (John) Gerecke, and Elizabeth (Walter) Metevier.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Steve Brandt.
Dorothy was a graduate of Atlanta High School and then served in the United States Air Force. She completed a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She worked for the Illinois Internal Revenue for 20 years at various locations, progressing from clerk to processor to manager. She had also worked for the NY Times as a clerk and at various medical offices in reception and scheduling. Dorothy enjoyed crochet, archaeology, anthropology, ancient and current history.
Memorials in her name may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
