Leroy McCray

Lincoln — Leroy McCray, 83, of Lincoln, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Sharon Elms Nursing Home in Peoria.

Graveside Services for Leroy will be held at a later date at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln.

Leroy McCray was born on February 15, 1941, in Lincoln, the son of Walter John and Stella Flossie Russell McCray, Jr. He was united in marriage to Judith Aper on April 17, 1960. She survives.

He is also survived by his children: Barbara (Tom) Winegardner, John (Jackie) McCray, Donald McCray, Larry (Shannon) McCray, and Amy Murphy; one sister: Betty Heckler, nine grandchildren: Daphne Fay, Lacey Martin, Cody McCray, Joshua McCray, Amanda McCray, Christopher McCray, Jake McCray, Andrew McCray, and Sophia Soots; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four grandchildren: T.J. Winegardner, Alex McCray, and Tad and Makenzie Murphy,

Leroy graduated from the Lincoln Community High School in 1960. He retired after twenty-six years from the Logan County Sheriffs Department as a Lieutenant.

He was of the Christian faith. His hobbies included antiquing, watching NASCAR, genealogy and spending time with his family.

Memorials may be made to the Logan County Sheriffs Office.

Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    He and I had avery good talk at one of our class reunions. He and I were in the same gym class and a couple of real classes at Lincoln High.
