Lincoln — Joyce Jean Smith Pinney, 89, of Lincoln, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family and her beloved grand pup Jack.
A Memorial Service for Joyce will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln with Rev. Brian Wachendorf officiating.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will be in Lucas Chapel Cemetery at a later date. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Joyce Jean Smith was born on September 26, 1934, in Lincoln, the 6th of 8 children to Oria Julius Smith, Sr. and Flo Margurette Arey Smith. She married James E. Pinney on September 28, 1953. They had four children. Jim preceded her in death on December 27, 2016.
Joyce worked much of her life in Lincoln as a bookkeeper/ accountant for many businesses. She achieved a dream and became a licensed nursing home administrator in 1988. She was the Administrator at Bartmann Health Care Center in Atlanta from 1984 until 1996, and the Administrator at Nursing and Retirement Center until 2000 when she became the CEO of Moweaqua, Centralia Nursing Center and Pickneyville Health Care Center. She retired in August of 2013 to care for her husband.
Joyce loved the sun, her family, and her church. She was a member of the Immanuel Church in Lincoln.
Joyce is survived by children: Debra Maaks, James (Becky) Pinney, Darla Pinney, and daughter-in-law Susan Pinney; grandchildren: Brandi and Brian Maaks, Beth (Jon) Mehn, Amy (Doug) Messerole, Todd (Ashley) Pinney, Laura (Adam) Gillespie, Corrie (Dan) Welch, and Jake Pinney; great-grandchildren: Emily, Mayci, and Madison Maaks, T.J. Hendrickson and Zac Mehn, Keagan and Adalynn Messerole, Kolton and Dillon Pinney, and Kennedy and Rylee Gillespie.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and son William E. Pinney; four sisters: Mary Ellen Bennett, Margurette Smith, Decemma Mae Armstrong, and Fern Melvene Ellison Turley; and three brothers: Oria Julis Smith Jr., Jack Arey Smith, and Donald Dean Smith.
In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln.

I worked with Joyce many years ago for awhile at the Abraham Lincoln Medical Group in Lincoln, Il. She was very nice and I’m glad I was able to keep in touch with her over the years. Prayers for her family.🙏🙏🙏
